Christmas Music in July

Christmas Music in July - Day 95 - Daily Content Challenge

I love playing Christmas Music on the handbells and most of our rehearsals in the fall focus on pieces our choirs will play during Advent and the Christmas season.

Sometimes we don’t have the opportunity to play all the Christmas music we worked on, or sometimes my choir doesn’t have enough time to prepare a piece well enough to play that year. But once the New Year starts, that’s it! We pull those pieces out of our binders and never look at them again until next year.

This fall because of the pandemic we only held rehearsals and worked on several pieces for Christmas. We were scheduled to play in-person for one of the advent Sundays but we couldn’t play all the pieces we had ready in just one service. So instead, we video taped several pieces we had been rehearsing and our music director was able to include those pieces during the advent and Christmas Eve Services. In fact one was used this Sunday, the second Sunday in January.

We missed ‘playing out’ at a Seniors’ residence this year, but with modern technology we were able to share our music with people who watch our services online.

Not sure where or when I acquired this bell. I think it was at a Handbell Event. Possibly one where the theme for the event was ‘Christmas in July 'or maybe at a Ringing Link event where the theme was ‘Dickens' Christmas Carol’. All the mass ringing pieces at these events were Christmas music. *

I took another look at this bell and noticed that written on the bell was 'Ringing Link 2002 Winnipeg'.  Makes sense because all the pieces we played that summer were Christmas music.

Have you played Christmas Music at other times of the year? Do any of you have a bell like this?
