The Acropolis in Athens, Greece
The Acropolis - Day 114 - Daily Content Challenge
Today’s bell shows the Acropolis in Athens, Greece.
The Acropolis in Athens was built during the 5th Century BC. The Acropolis rises some 500 feet above sea level. With springs near its base and only a single approach, the Acropolis was a good choice for a citadel and a sanctuary.
Over the years the Acropolis has been a home to kings, a citadel, a mythical home of the gods, a religious center, and a tourist attraction. It has survived attacks, massive earthquakes and vandalism.
The Acropolis was designated as a World Heritage Site in 1987 and still stands today as a reminder of the rich history of Greece.
I have been to Athens on two occasions and visited the Acropolis both times.
Read more about my trip to Greece in my Travelling Tuesdays book.
Have you had the opportunity to visit Greece?
Did you visit the Acropolis and see where the Apostle Paul spoke to the men of Athens at the Areopagus? You can find his famous sermon in Acts 17:16-34.
