A Candle from Africa
A Candle from Africa - Day 129 - Daily Content Challenge
Today’s elephant must be a bachelor elephant. He is all alone. We learned a few days ago that males live in bachelor groups or all alone.
This is a candle created by another artisan in Africa. I was drawn to this particular candle because of the typical African scene. The tree, the sunset and the elephant.
Baobab trees grow in many areas of Zimbabwe. The tree usually reaches up to more than 20 m in height.Â
The Big Tree in Chirinda Forest at Victoria Falls is the tallest indigenous tree in Zimbabwe. It has been declared a National Monument. The tree is estimated to be more than 1,000 years old. The Big Tree is 65 m tall.Â
Of course the purpose of having a candle is to light it especially if the power goes out. Losing power was a common occurrence in Zimbabwe so having plenty of candles around the house was a necessity.
Most parts of the country experienced a blackout in December 2021 when the country's grid collapsed following refurbishments at the Kariba Dam. Much of the electricty in Zimbabwe is produced at the Kariba Dam Hydroelectric Power Station.
I don’t want to spoil this beautiful memento of my time in Zimbabwe so it sits on the mantle above my fireplace and I can look at it often and remember my adventures in Africa.
Yes, I have a section about Zimbabwe in my Travelling Tuesdays book. Be sure and grab your copy today. Â
