Special Letters from Home - Day 140 - Daily Content Challenge

My picture shows a souvenir purchased at a souq in either India or Thailand on trips I was fortunate to take while teaching in Kuwait.

A teacher friend and I flew to Mumbai and then on to Hyderabad in India. Hyderabad is the capital and largest city in the Indian state of Telangana. Our final destination was Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, India to visit with friends I knew from Lethbridge.

On our return flight we had a lengthy stopover between flights and so took a taxi to a bazaar in Hyderabad.

In Thailand, I remember going to a shopping mall near Pattaya. So this souvenir could have been purchased there instead. Sue Choitz, you were with me at both places. Do you remember this beautiful elephant-decorated wall hanging? I used it to hold papers and letters from friends while living in Kuwait.

Today this wall hanging is on the back of a door leading down to my mailbox. When I took a look today, I found pictures and letters from friends who wrote to me while I was in Kuwait. Getting mail from home is so special.

Nowadays we usually just send emails or text messages but these special letters were from Seniors who were used to sending handwritten letters. While I was in Kuwait, I kept a journal and would send it via email to family and friends. I noticed in one letter written 20 years ago, the lady mentioned my journals. She said Kathy, our church secretary, would print off a few copies of my journal and when the ladies met at the church for a meeting, they would come early so they could read my latest journal. What a special memory! I am so glad I saved her letters to me. Thank you Elizabeth Stott.
