Chiredzi is a small town in south-east Zimbabwe.  It is the administrative centre for the Chiredzi District and both the rural and district councils of the Masvingo province are based here.

Chiredzi is one of a number of centres for HIV/AIDS treatment in the province.  The Hippo Valley Hospital is located in this district.

The land in this area is marginally suitable for dryland cropping. It is better suited to extensive livestock production or game ranching.

FACT - Family Aids Caring Trust was founded in 1987.  FACT is based in Mutare, Zimbabwe and it implements sustainable development projects by partnering with communities to improve people’s livelihood, and to provide HIV and AIDS care and support.  FACT is the country’s first AIDS service organization.

I obviously found these oven mitts in a craft store while on a visit to Zimbabwe to spend some time with my sister who had a posting in Harare at the Canadian Embassy.  I am not familiar with the town of Chiredzi but I do remember being in Mutare.

I enjoy doing cross stitch projects too and I am sure the elephant design on these oven mitts caught my attention when we stopped to take a look at the craft shop.  I am happy I was able to support the efforts of the Chiredzi and the Singisi African women’s club.
