Decorative Container - Bedouins and Camels
Decorative Container - Day 170 - Daily Content Challenge
My little container is decorated with a scene showing some camels. I included two photos so you can see the scene painted on the cover of this adorable little box.Â
This container reminds me of the Bedouins who were known for their nomadic lifestyles in the desert.
By definition a Bedouin is a nomadic Arab of the Arabian, Syrian or northern African deserts. Bedouins or Bedawi in Arabic, are Arabic-speaking nomadic people who are the oldest inhabitants of the Arabian desert. They are known for their resourcefulness and their hospitality. Â
The Bedouins have survived harsh weather conditions and they have lived in difficult environments. They have survived the scarcity of water and other resources. Â
The Jordanian Bedouin are traditionally and culturally nomadic camel-raising tribes. They live in Badia which is a semi-arid desert covering eighty percent of Jordan.
Bedouins make their own clothes from the wool of their camels, sheep and goats. The traditional male Arab dress is a long white tunic, a sleeveless cloak and a distinctive headcloth. The amount of heat gained by exposure to the desert heat is the same whether a Bedouin wears a black robe or a white one. The additional heat absorbed by a black robe is lost before it reaches the skin and often the black robe is more comfortable than a white robe.
Today the number of true nomadic Bedouins is shrinking. Many are now settled and most Bedouins no longer rely on animals. Bedouins who have adapted to the modern world retain their tribal loyalties and code of honour. Â
Many Bedouins in Oman commute between their desert camps and their jobs in the oil fields in pick-up trucks and SUVs. Water is brought to their camps in trucks. Children go to boarding school. They still continue to move their herds of camels and goats several times a year to new pastures but they no longer depend on their animals for survival.
