High Self-Esteem

Kekich Credo Statements - High Self-Esteem - Day 255 - Daily Content Challenge

Kekich Credo #67 - High self-esteem can only come from moral productivity and achievement.

Why is high self-esteem important?  High self-esteem boosts mental well-being.  Having high self-esteem helps you to handle adversity in a positive manner and it helps you to develop healthy coping skills.  People who have a low self-esteem are more vulnerable to depression.

People with high self-esteem believe in themselves.  They know what they want or need and drive to succeed.  They enjoy healthy relationships and have effective communication skills. They are goal-oriented, are comfortable with change and are able to laugh at themselves. They focus on their strengths and they never compare themselves to anyone. People with high self-esteem are unafraid to show their curiosity and they enjoy sharing their experiences, ideas, and opportunities.

How do you get a high self-esteem?  Take care of yourself.  Follow good health guidelines and find time each day to exercise.  Do things you enjoy and spend time with people who make you happy.

This credo statement says that high self-esteem can only come from moral productivity and achievement.  What does moral productivity and achievement mean?

The word moral is used as an adjective in this statement.  Morality is concerned with the principles of right and wrong behaviours and the goodness or badness of one’s character. Productivity is concerned with the quality of producing something and achievement is doing something successfully usually by applying some effort or courage or skill.  So this statement implies that a person is able to have high self-esteem because the things they do and achieve are done by following moral principles.

Doing things well and behaving in the right way enable us to feel good about ourselves and we will have high self-esteem.  I like this quote by Nathaniel Branden.

"Persons of high self-esteem are not driven to make themselves superior to others; they do not seek to prove their value by measuring themselves against a comparative standard. Their joy is being who they are, not in being better than someone else." ~ Nathaniel Branden
