Kekich Credo #79 - The “how” you get it (with integrity) is more important than the “what”.
The words that stood out to me in this statement are ‘how’ and ‘with integrity.’
The first thoughts I had about how, were process and journey. The word how is used to start a question. How do I do this? As a noun the word how means in what way, by what method, by what means, or in what manner.
In what way implies a course of action or process or procedure, or a system to follow. A process is a series of progressive steps by which a result is attained. The purpose of the process is to ensure consistency. A good process is a checklist that ensures the right things get done by the right person at the right time.
Why is the ‘how’(the process) more important than the ‘what’(the result)? All the small things, the progressive steps of the process, will eventually get you the desired result.
How can you focus on the process? Break down your task into smaller pieces and do one thing at a time. Do it well, and then move on to the next piece. Taking one step after the next, is the road to reaching any goal. Once you start, enjoy the experiences, the unknowns, and even the setbacks.
How you do each step is very important. The credo statement says to do each step with integrity. Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching. So as you follow the process make sure your words and actions show integrity.
The following quote by Jack Canfield sums it all up very well. “It’s Not the Result That’s Important, It’s Who You Become in The Process of Achieving the Result.”
If you do things with integrity, who you become will be so much better than someone who focuses on getting a result using any which way they can. Remember you are responsible for your actions. So focus on the ‘how’ with integrity, show the world you are trustworthy and reliable, and by taking one step at a time you will achieve your goals.
