Kekich Credo #90 - Find an excuse to laugh every chance you get, especially when you least feel like it.
Laughter is the action or sound one makes to show an emotion such as mirth, joy or scorn. When we find amusement or pleasure in something we laugh. Quite often the sound we make could range from a giggle to a very explosive sound. We call a small laugh a giggle. A giggle is described as a silly spasmodic laugh with short repeated gasps and titters. A titter is a short, half-suppressed laugh. Sometimes people giggle when they are nervous or embarrassed.
We often hear the expression, ‘Laughter is the best medicine.’ Laughing releases endorphins which are the feel-good chemicals our body produces to make us feel happy. Endorphins can also relieve pain or stress. When we laugh we increase and then decrease our heart rate and blood pressure. Laughter helps calm us down and it also relieves tension.Â
Why should we take time to laugh? Well, laughter can help lessen your stress, anxiety and depression and it may make you feel happier and improve your self-esteem. Â
The idiom, ‘Laughter is the best medicine.’ is said to mean that trying to be happy is a good way to stop worrying. Laughing relaxes our whole body from head to toe. A good hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress. It helps in leaving our muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes and Laughter helps in boosting our immune system as well.
If you are writing a blog post or an email the most common way to write laughter in English is ‘haha’. If we want to express more of a giggle, we can write ‘hehe’. In text messages we use LOL which means laughing out loud or ROFL (rolling on the floor laughing). Â
If we use the expression ‘I can’t stop laughing’ it means something has been so funny that it has made me laugh and I cannot stop my laughter!. If we say ‘I can’t help laughing’ it means the only response I can give is to ‘laugh at’ the particular issue or situation.Â
Find an excuse to laugh every day. Laughter brings us together. Your smile can light the way for someone else. If you are too busy to laugh, you are too busy - ProverbÂ
