Have a Stellar Attitude

Have a Stellar Attitude - Day 343 - Daily Content Challenge

In the universe there are many planetary systems with planets orbiting a host star. Our planetary system is located in an outer spiral arm of the Milky Way galaxy and is called the solar system.  The Latin word for Sun is solis so we use the word solar to describe things related to our star, the Sun.

Our solar system consists of the Sun and everything bound to it by gravity.  There are eight planets; Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.  There are dwarf planets such as Pluto; dozens of moons; and millions of asteroids, comets, and meteoroids.

The planets in our solar system as well as some asteroids have more than 200 moons in their orbits.  At least one asteroid and the four giant planets have rings.

When I was in school we learned there were nine planets in total.  Pluto was downgraded to a dwarf planet because it does not meet one of the criteria the International Astronomical Union (IAU) uses to define a full-sized planet.  Pluto has not cleared its neighbouring region of other objects.

Most of the asteroids in our solar system can be found orbiting the Sun between Mars and Jupiter in an area known as the asteroid belt. Asteroids are usually rocky or metallic.

The comets we see in the night sky originate from within our Solar System.  Comets are made of ice and dust.  As they approach the Sun their surfaces warm up causing their materials to vaporize. This produces the comet’s tail. Numerous meteoroids are shed and spread out along the comet’s orbit. Whenever the Earth’s atmosphere passes this dust trail, a meteor shower occurs.

The solar system is 4.6 billion year old.  It wasn’t until the Italian astronomer Galileo, born in 1564, began to observe our solar system and the Milky Way that man’s curiosity and understanding of the Universe began to grow.

Here are the sayings found on the bookmark for the Solar System.

  • Follow your own path

  • Give yourself some space

  • What goes around comes around

  • Be attractive

  • Pull Yourself Together

  • Have a stellar attitude

  • Stay centred!

These are my comments about the advice from the Solar System.

  • Follow your own path - You are unique and have amazing talents to share with others.  Follow your dreams and reach your potential. Just like the planets follow your own path.

  • Give yourself some space - Set aside time and space for yourself.  Use this time to rest, reflect, and re-energize.

  • What goes around comes around - This makes me think of the phases of the moon and the Earth rotating on its axis so we see the sunrise and sunset each day.

  • Be attractive - Live a life filled with positivity.

  • Pull Yourself Together - This phrase means to become calm and behave normally again after being angry or upset. When setbacks happen, there’s no point crying about it.  Just pull yourself together and get on with it.

  • Have a stellar attitude - Stellar means star or exceptionally good or outstanding.

  • Stay centred! - Stay focused.

Have a stellar day everyone.
