Fridge Magnet from Finland - Day 60 - Daily Content Challenge
Finland is a Northern European nation bordering Russia, Sweden and Norway. Helsinki is the capital city located on the Baltic Sea.
Finland is known for being the Happiest Country in the World. It is said to have the world’s best education system and the cleanest air. One major reason why Finland is such a happy place to live is the free, relaxed way of life. Finnish culture is very warm and focuses on co-operation rather than competition. Finland is more laid-back and more at peace with itself compared to many other places in the Western world.
Finland is known for its reindeers. The Finnish forest reindeer, also known as European forest reindeer is a rare subspecies of the reindeer native to Finland and northwestern Russia. Caribou are native to North America, whereas reindeer are native to northern Europe and Asia.
Reindeer eat lichen which they dig from under the snow. In the winter, reindeer also eat twigs, hay and beard moss. Herders give them mostly hay and branches with dried leaves as well.
Helsinki is in the southern part of Finland but one can see reindeer at Nuuksio Nature Park which is just outside Helsinki. This park is Finland’s southernmost national park. Here you can visit, touch and feed the reindeer.
Rovaniemi, Finland located in the Arctic Circle is home to Santa’s official North Pole residence. This Santa Claus Village is open year-round for kids of all ages to see Santa and his elves and to say hi to reindeer.
