Fridge Magnet of Venezuela - Day 59 - Daily Content Challenge
Today’s magnet reminds me of a summer trip with a friend to enjoy the sun on the beach near Cumana, in Venezuela. It is unsafe to travel to Venezuela today, but when I was there we were able to find our way in our rental car to the timeshare we had booked on the Caribbean coast. We enjoyed the lazy days of summer soaking up the sun and experiencing a relaxing holiday. It was a great opportunity to practice our limited Spanish and enjoy the local markets and sights of the area.
Venezuela is a country on the northern coast of South America. Along its Caribbean coast are tropical resort islands. To the northwest are The Andes Mountains are on the northwest and Caracas, the capital, is to the north.
The official currency of Venezuela is the Venezuelan bolivar named after Simón BolÃvar, the hero of Latin American independence. Current inflation has made the 1 billion bolivar worth less than $0.25. In October 2021, the government issued a new bolivar dropping six zeros. So the new 1k or 1000 bolivar is worth less than $0.25. Hard times for the locals who make about $3 a day.
Angel Falls which is in the south of Venezuela is the world's highest waterfall. It is named after Jimmie Angel who was the first person to fly over the falls.
To visit the waterfalls people have to fly on a small airplane, navigate on a boat or canoe, and walk through the jungle to reach the majestic falls. Sound like a great adventure.
