Today’s magnet is my favorite storybook character, Anne Shirley, of ‘Anne of Green Gables' by Lucy Maud Montgomery.
The original book was published in 1908 and follows the adventures of Anne Shirley, a young orphan girl living on Prince Edward Island.
As an elementary school teacher, I began my classes each day by reading a chapter from a book. Every year I would include my favorite book ‘Anne of Green Gables’. Former students walking passed my classroom door, would hear me reading or stamping my feet while ‘shouting’ at Mrs. Lynde, and would tell me at recess time they knew I was reading Anne of Green Gables again.
The book became a favorite of many of my students. What is your favorite book?
The book is a work of fiction — there is no real Anne Shirley on whose life the events in it are based -- but she became real to many of my students.
Have you every been to Prince Edward Island? I have.
One of my favorite place to visit is the Green Gables house and see the places mentioned in the book. You can visit Anne's room and Marilla's kitchen. Enjoy an ice cream cone at the ice cream shop. In the book we learn of Anne's first taste of ice cream.
Another favourite thing to do is to get tickets to the musical production playing on Prince Edward Island every summer and enjoy the talents of the actors and singers as they bring Anne's story to life.
