Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho

Joshua Fit the Battle … Day 50 - Daily Content Challenge

My fridge magnet today is one I purchased while on a Handbell Festival trip in Israel. Our tour bus stopped in Jericho and we were able to visit a nearby gift shop.

Jericho is a Palestinian city in the West Bank. It is located in the Jordan Valley and we were travelling from Jerusalem, along the Jordan River towards Nazareth. Our first stop was in the city of Jericho. Jericho is famous in biblical history as this was the first town attacked by Joshua and the Israelites after they crossed the Jordan River into the promised land.

When I took the picture of the magnet, I immediately started singing the spiritual, ‘Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho and the walls came tumbling down’.

Then I started thinking about the battles we fight every day.

In some of my earlier posts of this Content Challenge, I wrote about the LifeSAVERS that have become part of my morning routine. Today is day 19 of adding this routine to my morning.

I started the day after the time changed so it was easier to actually jump out of bed when the alarm went off since we turned the clocks back an hour.

After a week I reset the alarm and now I get up at 6:30 am instead of 6:55. This gives me enough time to get dressed and be sitting down ready to start my hour completing the LifeSAVERS.

Today I sat down and started at 7 am - the earliest time ever!

But it was a battle for me.

I had to fight the battle of ‘sleep in’ or ‘get up’. I got up!

I had to fight the battle of responding to the notices on my phone or waiting till I completed my morning routine.

What battles do you face each day?

Today’s study guide reminded me that we need to stand together. We are in this together. We are not alone. In the faith community and the other communities we belong to, we are/should be strengthened, encouraged, and safe. We are unstoppable.

So be encouraged. Keep going and encourage each other too!
