Geneva - Day 121 - Daily Content Challenge
My bell today is a reminder of a Ski Trip to Switzerland. When I was teaching in Kuwait I was fortunate to be part of a group of students and teachers who went on a school trip to ski in the Alps. We stayed near the town of Verbier and the students and staff enjoyed ski lessons and other mountain adventures while on this school trip.
I remember taking a gondola ride that took us high enough to see the Matterhorn. The ski slope down was a double black diamond run so I got back in the gondola to ride down to a slope that was still a challenge but more suited to my ability level.
Our return flight to Kuwait departed from the Geneva International Airport located 4 km northwest of Geneva city centre and we were able to spend part of a day in Geneva exploring this city.
Geneva is located on the shore of Lake Geneva. It is very close to the border with France and as a result French is the language spoken in Geneva. Geneva is host to many international organizations. It hosts the Headquarters of Europe’s United Nations, the World Health Organization, and the Red Cross. The city is known as a global hub for diplomacy and banking.
The Swiss franc is the only currency accepted everywhere in Switzerland. The euro is a foreign currency so if you pay with euros, you will get change in Swiss francs and the exchange rate is mostly not in your favour. On this school trip I think most of us exchanged our KD (Kuwaiti Dinar) to Swiss Francs.
Are you a skier or a snowboarder? Have you skied in the Alps? Teaching at the Universal International School in Kuwait gave me so many unforgettable experiences.
