Dowels with Camel Heads - Holding up Cartouches
Dowels with Camel Heads - Day 168 - Daily Content Challenge
Camels are called Beasts of Burden but I bet they didn’t expect to be holding a wall hanging of an Egyptian Cartouche. I ordered these wall hangings while on a visit to see my sister in Cairo, Egypt.
The dowels we picked to hold the wall hangings have camel heads on them. What a perfect way to showcase these beautiful cartouches the artisan created.
I decided to have him create a cartouche using Egyptian hieroglyphs to write my name. He stitched my name in English and in Arabic. Inside the cartouche he sewed Egyptian hieroglyphs to spell out my name. Egyptian hieroglyphs were the formal writing system used in Ancient Egypt. This is how they wrote the Egyptian language. So the wall hanging shows my name in three languages - English, Arabic and Egyptian.Â
The Lion is the letter L, the U looks like a backwards e, the C is the symbol for an s which is a Fold of Cloth, and the Y is Two Reeds. A unique but special way to spell LUCY. Â
On the second one, the letter G is a Stand, the letter R is a Mouth, the letter A is a Vulture, the letter H is supposed to be a Twist of Flax according to the info I found on Google Search but this artist used a different symbol maybe because the H is silent , the letter A is another Vulture and the letter M is an Owl. GRAHAM - my family name. Â
In Egyptian hieroglyphs, a cartouche is an oval with a line at one end tangent to the oval. This indicates that the text enclosed is a royal name. I guess my name is a royal name. 😃
One summer at our church’s Kids Day Camp, I took my Wall Hangings with me and showed them to the campers. We were talking about Names and how special it is that God knows each of us by our name. Â
Have a great day everyone. Your name is special too!Â
