Camels on a Floor Mat
Camels on a Floor Mat - Day 177 - Daily Content Challenge
Today’s picture shows a floor mat with camels as part of the design.
I bought this mat at a souq in the old city of Dubai. I liked the design and it was something I could pack in my suitcase and take back to Kuwait. I placed it on the floor in my bedroom to protect my feet from the cold, hard floors.Â
Now back in Canada, this mat sits on the carpet in front of my ensuite counter. I see it many times during the day and am reminded of my time in the Middle East and of my visits to Dubai.Â
Dubai is a big city with plenty of things to do and to see. We took a hop on hop off bus tour to see some of the sights and there are routes you can take that stop at many of the souks in Dubai.Â
The Gold Souk is a must see if you are looking for a statement jewellery piece or for that special memento of your time in Dubai. Â
The Spice Souk is the place to see the colourful sacks of herbs, spices, rice and fruits. You can taste some fresh dates and stock up on spices, dried fruits, candied nuts, and locally-blended teas.
At Deira’s Perfume Souk you can find anything scented. Discover pure perfumes, essential oils, and incense sticks. You can buy oils in bulk or select some ornate vials to hold your perfume. These portable vials are designed for those who like to dab a bit of perfume on their pulse points. These are the best spots to apply scent because of the warmth of your blood. Places on your body where your heart pulse can be felt are behind your ear, at the bottom of your throat, on your wrist, inside your elbow, and behind your knee.
The Al Fahidi Souk has shops selling ready-made clothes created by local designers as well as toys, gifts, antiques and electronics. There are regular stores selling perfumes, cosmetics, shoes, bags and other accessories. Â
Al Fahidi Souk gives you a taste of Old Dubai. You might even get bargains you can’t find anywhere else in the city. The crowds are smaller here and as in all souks in this part of the world one is able to barter and prices are not set in stone.Â
Shopping at souks is part of life in the Arab world. Be sure to embrace this experience. It is a lot of fun.
