Today’s picture shows another camel. This one has been painted on leather and is part of the decoration of this portable seat. This is another piece of furniture I found while shopping in Fahaheel in Kuwait.
Handmade tripod seats were often used by the shopkeepers so they could sit down and rest while tending their shop in the marketplace. Quite often there would be times between customers that the shopkeepers could sit and visit with their next door neighbour.
I purchased two of these stools and chose ones with the camel as the design on the leather seat. These seats are great for children to sit on when I have visitors at my home. I find them too low for me to use.
Here in Canada and the USA, commercial tripod seats are used while taking part in a number of outdoor activities. Folding tripod seats are great to take with you when camping, hiking, fishing, hunting or going on picnics. The leather seat is often fastened to the top of the three wooden legs with a strong metal bolt and a shoulder strap is attached as well making it easy to fold the seat and carry it too.
My leather seat comes apart. I can take the leather part off the top of the legs. I can fold the legs and then carry the seat and the legs separately. When putting it back together, the legs slip into the back of the leather to hold the seat in place. One has to do this carefully or the chair will fall apart when attempting to sit down.
My tripod camel seats stay in my home rather than taking them on outdoor activities. They add a great conversation piece when I have visitors to my home. I love how many stories come to mind when I see these camel seats. Read more about my travels to many places around the world in my Travelling Tuesdays book. I would be happy to autograph it for you.
