Competition at the Alberta 55 Plus 2022 Winter Games continued with three more Scrabble games being played on the second day in the morning.
I had a bye for the first round, so I worked on writing up my post for the Daily Content Challenge. I posted about the first day of competition later that day.
The final two rounds of the tournament were close games with my opponent but I managed to win both of them!
In my division, I won the gold medal shown in the pictures below. So I guess I am the Provincial Scrabble Champ in my division for 2022. I like the plaque on the back of the medal. It shows the Alberta map, the year and where the games took place.
The Canada 55+ Games will be in Kamloops, British Columbia in August 2022. After being postponed due to the pandemic in 2020, the Canada 55+ Games are scheduled for August 23 - 26th, 2022.
Qualifying athletes are determined through provincial competitions. Since I won gold this week at the Alberta Provincial Games, I qualify to go and participate in the Canada 55+ Games in Kamloops. For the first time athletes from the host city (Kamloops) will also be able to compete as a team as well as qualifiers from each of the provinces and territories in Canada.
The Canada 55+ Games is a multi-sport event with over 2500 participants competing in 26 different events. The Games focus on the social, physical and psychological well being of the participants. Over the four days of the Games we will be treated to three days of competition, an Opening Ceremony, Special Events, and a Closing Ceremony with a banquet and dance.
The aspect of winning is secondary to the social side as we make new friends and reunite with friends we have met at past Games and provincial events. The goal of the 55+ Games is to celebrate an active lifestyle for those who are over 55.
I am looking forward to the Canada 55 Plus Games this summer.
