Become a Communications Expert

Kekich Credo Statements - Become a Communications Expert - Day 217 - Daily Content Challenge

Kekich Credo #29 - Most accomplishment (and problem avoidance) is built on clear persuasive communication. That includes knowing each other’s definitions, careful listening, thinking before talking, focused questioning and observing your feedback. Become a communications expert.

What is clear persuasive communication?  There are two parts to communication.  There is the message the sender intended to send and the message that was understood by the receiver.  Clear communication exists when the message received is the same as the message which the sender intended to send.

Effective persuasive communication focuses on the audience’s needs, values and desires.  Your audience will respond better when they feel the person speaking is similar to them in some way.  When communication is effective, it leaves all parties involved feeling satisfied and accomplished. With clear communication, there is no room for misunderstanding or alteration of the message.  This decreases the potential for conflict. The centre of all persuasive communication is the audience.

Ways to improve communication is to let others talk.  If someone talks to you about something difficult or important, don’t interrupt them with a story about yourself.  Listen.  Don’t judge others and accept the fact that they may disagree with you.  Ask open questions and show them you are listening.

Are you an expert communicator?  Expert communicators know that their communication is only as good as its impact on their intended audience.  Listening, learning and tailoring your messages to fit your audience and their needs will ensure empathy, relevance and impact.

Great communicators ask questions to give people a chance to share their knowledge and express their opinions.  Taking time to listen to others helps you understand what people are thinking.  An expert communicator knows how to balance speaking and listening effectively.

A good communicator is a good listener. Communication requires two or more parties to be active in the conversation. Be concise. Being direct and clear with your communication ensures that you convey your intentions properly.  Be empathetic, confident, friendly, observant, appreciative and polite.

This credo statement says that clear persuasive communication includes knowing each other’s definitions, careful listening, thinking before talking, focused questioning and observing your feedback. Lots of good advice if you want to become an expert communicator.
