Kekich Credo #32 - Do not compromise if you are right. Hold your ground, show no fear, ask for what you want, and the opposition will usually agree.
Three phrases in this short credo stand out for me. Do not compromise, hold your ground and ask for what you want. Â
To compromise means to give up some demands and agree on something less. It made me think of when doing a call with someone and telling them about your offer. When they ask you for the cost don’t compromise, instead state the price and be quiet. If they see the value in your offer, they will figure out a way to pay the price.
Lately I have been sitting up at our Seniors Centre and talking to folks about my Travelling Tuesdays book. I never tell them how much it costs until they ask. I am getting better at keeping quiet after I state the price. Many will say no but those that really want it, will pay what I ask and many will agree that it is worth that cost. If they say they don’t have the money today, I tell them I am able to take a debit card or a credit card.Â
Ask for what you want. The saying goes: if you don’t ask, you don’t get! The way you ask for what you want will influence the outcome. Be polite and feel empowered to ask for what you want. Act as if you expect to get it. Think for a moment. Your body posture, eye contact, tone of voice and choice of words are influenced by your state of mind. You need a solid level of certainty and expectation when you ask for something you want.
Some people are not capable of delivering. Expect some people to say no. Be gracious in receiving that no. They may be someone who feasibly could not help you. Ask that person to help you find a solution. They may know someone who can give you a yes. Because you gave them the respect they deserve, they often find their own way to turn that no into a yes.Â
This Kekich Credo statement is true. Do not compromise if you are right. Hold your ground, show no fear, ask for what you want, and the opposition will usually agree.
