Having a Strong Sense of Family

Life’s Purpose - Having a Strong Sense of Family - Day 289- Daily Content Challenge

Today I am going to start sharing my thoughts about a number of Life Purpose Statements I found while researching the 100th Kekich Credo.

  1.  Having a Strong Sense of Family.

“I will always work to do what is best for my family. Without neglecting myself, I will seek to meet their needs. I will seek to understand their insecurities, and give them the support and unconditional love to make them feel special, important, and irreplaceable.”

We all are part of a family.  This Life Purpose focuses on Family.

The Merriam - Webster Dictionary says the definition of family is a social group made up of parents and their children. Today’s definition says a family is a group of persons united by the ties of marriage, blood, or adoption, making up a single household and interacting with each other as spouses, parents, children, and siblings.

Family is the most important influence in a child’s life.  Children depend on parents and family to protect them and provide for their needs.  Family is how we start to define ourselves, our world, and our values.  From your early years, they teach you about life.  Our experiences and interactions with our families are the foundations from which we grow.  Family provides us with support, encouragement, love, and a place we can return to.

There are six different family types. Nuclear families, also known as traditional families, consist of two parents (usually married or common law) and their children.  There are single parent families, extended families, childless families, step-families and grandparent families.  Regardless of what size or type of family you belong to, your family consists of the people who support and love you and the people you can confide in and trust.

Families have a crucial role in social development.  Families bear the responsibility for the education and socialization of children as well as instilling values of citizenship and belonging in society.

You need to take care of yourself before you can help others. If your life’s purpose is having a strong sense of family, you need to take care of yourself first.  The second sentence in this Life Purpose Statement says, ’Without neglecting myself, I will seek to meet their needs.’

Without neglecting myself is a very important part of this statement.  The term self-neglect covers a wide range of behaviours. Examples of self neglect include neglecting to care for one’s personal hygiene and appropriate clothing, neglecting to seek assistance for medical issues or refusing to care for your basic needs and your surroundings.

Why should you care for yourself first?  Engaging in a self-care routine has been clinically proven to reduce or eliminate anxiety and depression, reduce stress, improve concentration, minimize frustration and anger, increase happiness, and improve energy. You need to take care of yourself before you can help others.

If your purpose is to have a strong sense of family, repeating this statement every day will help you focus on your life purpose.  “I will always work to do what is best for my family. Without neglecting myself, I will seek to meet their needs. I will seek to understand their insecurities, and give them the support and unconditional love to make them feel special, important, and irreplaceable.”
