Life’s Purpose - Giving Back to the Community - Day 291 - Daily Content Challenge
Life’s Purpose #3. Giving Back to the Community
“I want to contribute something to my community that will leave it better than it was before my contribution. I want to show others that connecting with your community is important and vital.”
Connecting with your community and giving back. What do you mean by community? A community is a group of people with a common interest. Strong communities are an important source of social connection and a sense of belonging. Participating in a community is an essential ingredient to enjoying a fulfilling life.
A community can be a place where people connect geographically or they can connect via a virtual space such as a social media group. A community enables us to share and support the growth of each other, ourselves and our environment.
A good community is a safe and happy place and provides a high quality of life for everyone that lives there. It values and promotes intergenerational learning. Community life is a life of cooperation and responsibility.
Here are some ways to give back to your community.
-
Volunteer. Taking part in volunteering activities is one of the most fulfilling ways to help your community.
-
Clean up your neighbourhood. By picking up litter and trash or doing some yard work, you can make your area a more pleasant place to live.
-
Help your neighbours.
-
Donate to the local food bank or take things to a local charity store.
-
Volunteer at a senior centre.
-
Work on a community garden.
-
Donate blood.
-
Help build a home.
-
Rake someone’s leaves.
-
Shovel snow for an elderly neighbour.
-
Make a monetary donation to a local charity.
Volunteering your time, your skills, or just doing something for someone else is a way to give back to your community. It makes you feel better about yourself and a simple smile can brighten someone’s day.
