Motivation - Adapt
Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change. Stephen Hawking
The definition of intelligence is the ability to learn and apply knowledge and skills so you can deal with new or trying situations. Â
This quote from Stephen Hawking says intelligence is the ability to adapt to change. Â
Adaptability means being open to learning new concepts, trying new ways of doing things, and taking on new challenges. Adaptable people aren’t scared of change.
Change is inevitable. People who fail to adapt end up being too rigid and they often form unhealthy habits. Adaptability is something anyone can learn with time.Â
There are lots of benefits you can gain by being flexible and adaptable. It won’t be easy at first but patience and practice can go a long way. Adaptability expands your capacity to handle change. Â
Stephen Hawking (January 1942 - March 2018) was regarded as one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists in history. At the time of his death he was director of research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge. Between 1979 and 2009, he was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge.
Stephen Hawking was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) commonly known in the USA as Lou Gehrig’s disease. As ALS progresses, the degeneration of motor neurons in the brain interfere with messages to muscles in the body and eventually the voluntary control of muscles is lost. Â
Stephen Hawking had to adapt to these changes in his ability to control his muscles. He used to be able to communicate by using his hand to activate a switch. He was able to produce up to 15 words per minute. He gradually lost the use of his hand and in 2005 he began to control his communication device with movements of his cheek muscles. Â
How adaptable are you? Do you have trouble adapting to change?
Recognize that change is happening. It is common for people to ignore the change that is happening around them. Write down the positive and when possible, prepare. Quiet your mind and be kind to yourself. Find a trusted friend to talk it out. If you adapt to a new situation, you need to change your ideas or behaviour in order to deal with it successfully.
