Canada 55+ Games - Kamloops, BC

Canada 55+ Games - Kamloops, BC - Day 323 - Daily Content Challenge

Kamloops, BC is hosting the 2022 Canada 55+ Games and I am participating in Scrabble on the Alberta Team.

The City of Kamloops occupies land that has been a place of great cultural and economic importance in the region.  The City acknowledges that we are located on Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc (TteS) territory, situated within the unceded ancestral lands of the Secwépemc Nation.  We honour and respect the people, the territory, and the land that houses our community.

The Canada 55+ Games is a large multi-sport event with over 2500 participants competing in 26 different events. Participants must qualify through their provincial 55+ games competitions.  I went to the Alberta 55+ Games in Edmonton in April and won the Scrabble event there.

The Games focus on the social, physical and psychological well being of the participants through participation in a multi-day event.  At the Opening Ceremonies held on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 they acknowledged the oldest male participant was 93 and he was competing in 8-ball I believe.  The oldest female participant was 94 and she is competing in Golf.

I competed in Scrabble and after the round robin I ended up in 6th place.  I won the play-offs in the section for the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th places and was awarded the Bronze Medal in the Beginner Category.

Today is the last day of competition and there will be a Closing Ceremony with a banquet and dance. A great way to celebrate my birthday!
