Be Gentle on the Earth and Embrace Mystery
Be Gentle on the Earth and Embrace Mystery - Day 405 - Daily Content Challenge
According to the Urban Dictionary, a Sasquatch is an abnormally tall and large freckled monster. A Sasquatch resembles a human with red hair. He is often seen lurking in the woods or jungles making strange, deep, moaning sounds.
The name Sasquatch comes from an adaptation of the Halkomelem tribe's word in Salish, ‘se'sxac’, meaning wild men. The Halkomelems live in British Columbia. The name was coined by a Canadian journalist who wrote a series of articles about Bigfoot in the 1920’s. This large, hairy, humanlike creature is believed by some people to exist in the northwestern part of the USA and in western Canada.Â
The Sasquatch is also called Bigfoot. It seems to represent the North American counterpart of the Himalayan region’s mythical monster called the Abominable Snowman or Yeti.
A Sasquatch is described as a primate ranging from two to four and a half metres tall. He stands erect on two feet and often gives off a foul smell. He moves silently or emits a high-pitched cry. Â
Since the first alleged finding of Sasquatch footprints, in 1811, several people have claimed to have found footprints measuring up to 24 inches in length and 8 inches wide. Others have claimed to have seen a Sasquatch. However, scholars and scientific researchers do not recognize Sasquatch’s existence. Â
Before the stories about the mysterious ‘ape man’ began circulating in the American West, most Indigenous Tribes had their own legends about this ambiguous creature who was larger than the average man, and completely covered in dark brown or reddish hair. They believed the Sasquatch lived in both the physical and spiritual world. When Bigfoot shows up in a dream, it means you need to prepare for some unexpected events in your waking life.Â
The Sasquatch is a cryptid (a creature whose existence is suggested, but has not yet been confirmed by the scientific community). Like the Yeti of Asia or the Abominable Snowman of the Himalayas, Sasquatch is rooted in Indigenous legend. Some believe Sasquatch is a nearly extinct species of hominid that survives in isolation. Others consider the creature to be the product of folklore and a hoax. Â
Folklorists trace the origin of the Yeti to a combination of Sherpa folklore and misidentified fauna such as bear or yak. The Tibetan Yeti is supposed to inhabit the Himalayas at about the level of the snow line. The Yeti has razor sharp claws, fangs, an enlarged size, white fur all over his body, and superhuman strength. Both Sasquatch and Yeti eat pretty much any prey that is available including bugs, fish, antelope, monkeys, rodents, and deer. Â
