Today I want to give thanks for my handbell ringers.
I am blessed to spend a couple of hours each week ringing with my handbell teams.
We held the fourth practice this year after waiting 18 months to see each other's eyes again. We follow health rules - wear our masks, and practice physical distancing while holding rehearsals.
My afternoon group all attended the Handbell Discovery on the weekend and they all came to rehearsal excited to share what they learned at Discovery.
Two of us were on the planning committee and one of the others started our session with a round of applause for the work the committee did to put on a first class event.
I was excited to share what I learned from the excellent clinicians and to hear what they had learned.
I asked for one word to describe the online event. These were the words they shared - inspiring, professional, great hosting skills, punctual, sessions started on time. [Lunch break was too short! One said they didn’t have time to eat.]
As we rehearsed we pointed out things we had learned. I could tell they all improved as ringers just by spending the time at the event.
Even though this was Ringing Virtually Together - it worked! Attending events and learning from others results in such a growth in our learning curve.
There were ringers and clinicians from Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. The clinicians were all so positive and encouraged us to be patient, be calm and take care of each other.
Coming back after 18 months of not ringing is a scary thing for all of us. Well done Bridge City Bells!
