Find Windows of Opportunity and Stay Ahead of the Curve - Day 466 - Daily Content Challenge

Natural Arches are unique geological features formed by water.  Natural bridges are rock formations with openings underneath. They exist in all shapes and sizes and are found in many places around the world. Some could be a landscape arch, while most are formed by water erosion.

In the United States there are more than 2000 of these formations in Arches National Park in Southern Utah.  Arches exist because those landscapes were at one point under water.

The largest natural bridge in the world is Rainbow Bridge in Utah. It is considered a sacred place by the Navajo Nation who owns part of the land where it is located.  Delicate Arch is one of the primary attractions at the Arches National Park near Moab, Utah. The North Window arch is also a popular one to see in Arches National Park. This arch is a great place to take pictures because the panoramas are spectacular!

China’s Elephant Trunk Hill is a landscape arch which gives the look of an elephant and a bright full moon from the water from a distance. You can hire a local guide to travel through the arch by boat.

A famous arch in the United Kingdom is the Durdle Door located near Lulworth in Dorset.  This rock arch is privately owned and sits on a small isthmus that protects a sandy beach.

Arco Naturale is located off of the island of Capri, Italy.  This natural arch is thought to be the remains of a collapsed cavern.  With rocky points jutting out of the top of it, it looks like someone bore a hole right through the mountainside.

Other notable arches in North America include Perce Rock, located in Quebec, Canada.  This large arch is immersed in water and juts majestically out into the Gulf of St. Lawrence. During low tide it is possible to go out and explore the area for a few hours.  The Ear of the Wind Arch in Arizona is an example of a pot-hole arch in the United States. Natural Bridges State Beach located near Santa Cruz, California is a day-use area only. This natural arch is often surrounded by Monarch butterflies. El Arco de Cabo San Lucas, Mexico has incredible rock formations. Here you can enjoy scuba diving and snorkelling activities as well.

London Arch in Australia is similar to what Perce Rock is for Canada.  This double arch natural bridge collapsed in 1990. Azure Window in Malta was originally formed thousands of years ago when two limestone caves collapsed.  Because of the nature of the limestone and its exposure to erosion, experts believe it will no longer be an arch within a few years.  A partial collapse took place in 2012.

There are thousands of arches in the world.  I have been fortunate to see one of these.  You guessed it.  I have been to Perce Rock on the Gaspe Peninsula in Quebec.  In fact I included  Perce Rock in my book Travelling Tuesdays.

These are the sayings on the bookmark I found called Advice from an Arch.

  • Stand the test of time

  • Be open

  • Find windows of opportunity

  • Reveal your Strengths

  • Stay ahead of the curve!

Here are my comments about each of these sayings.

  • Stand the test of time - The arches I mentioned have been 65 million years in the making. While some may fall, most of these arches will stand well beyond our lifetime.  What kind of legacy are you leaving for those that come after you?

  • Be open - Be open to other possibilities.

  • Find windows of opportunity - Windows of opportunity are the periods of time in which a strategy can be employed to gain value from a recognized opportunity.

  • Reveal your Strengths - Identify what you do well and what you love doing. Share your strengths with others.

  • Stay ahead of the curve! - Be one of the first to change to a new idea.

Have a great day everyone.  Find Windows of Opportunity and Stay Ahead of the Curve.
