Christmas Eve - Day 78 - Daily Content Challenge

Many of the ornaments I have on my tree are ‘craft’ projects one could do with kids in school or with friends to give out to others as a reminder that we care for them and want to remember them at Christmas time. Others are party favors that can be given out at a banquet or conference as a reminder of a special event.

The two red stockings and the snowman’s face are non-edible cookies we made in 1977! Imagine over 50 years ago and I still put them on my tree every year!

A group of us baked these cookies and then painted them to sell at a craft sale. This was a fund raising project to raise funds so three of us could go to the Baptist World Alliance Youth Conference in Manilla in 1978.

Ruth, do you remember cooking these in your basement apartment and the fun we had painting the dozens of decorated cookies we made?

Gordon Hunt, Ruth Graham and I went on this life changing adventure thanks to the fundraising efforts of many friends.

The reindeer is made using tiny clothespins and the snowman with his black top hat is made with a tongue depressor.

The tiny ornament is a miniature Nutcracker. It is a reminder of the Nutcracker ballet based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s 1816 fairy tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. It tells the story of a little girl who goes to the Land of Sweets on Christmas Eve. The 1892 two-act ballet was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with the score by Tchaikovsky.

The ballet has been performed in many different places around the world and is a Christmas favorite for many dance students.

Tell us about your special ornaments you have on your tree.
