Ribbon Candy - a Special Christmas Treat

Making Ribbon Candy - Day 7O - Daily Content Challenge

Yesterday I shared the story about the Candy Cane.

Today I want to tell you about another candy that we only had at Christmas time. My Mom would always buy some Ribbon Candy and include some in our stocking! I guess you would say it was a family tradition.

Ribbon candy is a type of hard candy that goes back for centuries in Europe. Candy makers would first fashion warm sugar into flat strips. A strip was then folded back and forth around the candy maker’s thumb to form a hardened ribbon shaped stick.

I found a YouTube video that shows making ribbon candy by hand.  It is interesting to see how they add the different colors to the ribbon and then how they twist the sting into shape.

Did you enjoy this decorated ribbon candy when you were growing up? Do you still have some as part of your holiday treats?
