Bubble with Excitement as You Explore New Worlds - Day 408 - Daily Content Challenge
An Aquarium is a container such as a glass tank or an artificial pond which contains living aquatic animals or plants.Â
There are over 200 public aquariums in the world. The largest is China’s Chimelong Ocean Kingdom which has enclosures filled with almost 13 million gallons of water. The Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in Japan houses 740 species including the gigantic white shark. The Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta has over 500 underwater species and the Vancouver Aquarium is the largest aquarium in Canada.Â
A Public Aquarium is the aquatic counterpart of a zoo. Public Aquariums house living aquatic animal and plant specimens for public viewing. Most public aquariums feature tanks that are larger than those kept in a home but they also have smaller tanks too. Public Aquariums provide fun-filled leisure and entertainment activities. They also serve as centres for animal rescue, care and rehabilitation, scientific research, education and conservation.Â
Home aquariums come in many shapes and sizes. Different aquariums will require different maintenance and different time commitments. It is important to remember that all aquariums or fish tanks contain live animals and you have the responsibility to know what is needed to keep your tank and fish healthy. Â
If you are a novice fish owner then a simple fish bowl may be the perfect starting point. A fish bowl doesn’t have any electrical equipment, lighting or filters. It is simply a bowl with fish. You can get all types of aquarium rocks, stones and ornaments for your fish bowl. Remember fish bowls require regular cleaning.
There are community aquariums which contain fish from different regions and have plants that last a long time, Goldfish aquariums that contain goldfish with some green foliage to contrast the colour of the fish, and planted aquariums that have more aquatic plants than fish. Freshwater aquarium fish come from rivers and creeks. A Saltwater aquarium is used for marine fish. Â
Aquariums usually need accessories such as filters, lights and heaters. You will also need ways to measure water quality and pH levels. The size of your tank and the fish species you choose will determine what accessories you will need. Â
There are many benefits to having a home aquarium. For kids, they can be educational and teach responsibility. Studies show that viewing an aquarium can be therapeutic. It lowers blood pressure, reduces stress and has a calming effect on people. An aquarium makes a great gathering place in the home and provides a fun activity for the whole family.Â
