Keep Strummin’ Through Life. Uke Can Do It! - Day 383 - Daily Content Challenge

The ukulele is a musical instrument of the lute family of instruments of Portuguese origin and popularized in Hawaii. The ukulele is also called the Uke.  Ukuleles are four-stringed instruments that come in four sizes. They include soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone ukuleles.

The ukulele is one of the easiest musical instruments to learn how to play.  The ukulele has only four strings originally made of catgut. Modern ukuleles use nylon polymer strings. The soft nylon strings are gentle on your fingertips and don’t create finger pain.  The small size of the ukulele reduces wrist tension because you can reach the notes without stretching.

No matter what your age, learning to play the ukulele is always possible even without any knowledge of music theory.  The ukulele is tuned to a C tuning. The most important basic ukulele chords to learn are C chord, D chord, G chord, and Em chord.  These chords set you up to play many songs and each of them is easy to learn.  Just a week or two of practice can give you access to all the chords you’ll need to be able to play hundreds of songs on the ukulele. When playing the ukulele you usually strum all four strings.  There are times though when you don’t have to.

The ukulele is often used in island music, but it can also be used for other genres of music.  These include rock, jazz, and blues.  Ukulele music is a great choice for beginners because it is relatively easy to learn.

These are the sayings on the bookmark called Advice from a Ukulele.

  • Play Well with Others

  • Pick Your Friends Wisely

  • Make Each Day an Aloha Day

  • Follow Your Inner Song

  • Keep Strummin’ Through Life

  • Don’t Fret the Small Stuff

  • Uke Can Do It!

Here are my comments about each of these sayings.

  • Play Well with Others - Teamwork is important when playing a musical instrument.

  • Pick Your Friends Wisely - Pick - sometimes you can use a pick while you are strumming the strings on a ukulele.  Choose friends who can laugh with you rather than at you.

  • Make Each Day an Aloha Day - The real meaning of aloha in Hawaiian is that of Love, Peace and Compassion.

  • Follow Your Inner Song - Everyone has an inner song that needs to be expressed in the way we move and act.

  • Keep Strummin’ Through Life - Keep on keeping on.

  • Don’t Fret the Small Stuff - Major on the major and don’t sweat the small stuff.

  • Uke Can Do It! - YOU can do this!

Have a great day!  Keep Strummin’ Through Life.  Uke Can Do It!
