Expand Your Horizons and Keep a Stellar Attitude

A galaxy is a collection of gas, dust, dark matter and billions of stars and their solar systems.  Galaxies, held together by gravity, come in various shapes and sizes. There are dwarf galaxies which contain a few hundred million stars and giant galaxies which contain a hundred trillion stars.   

Our galaxy, the Milky Way, is an average-sized galaxy. It stretches for 105,700 light-years in diameter. There is also a massive black hole in the middle.  When you look up at the stars in the night sky, you are seeing other stars in the Milky Way. There may be at least 100 billion planets and around 400 billion stars in the Milky Way.

Our galaxy is only one of billions of other galaxies that exist within the universe. In 2022 astronomers found a giant radio galaxy called Alcyoneus. It is 3 billion light-years away from us and stretched 16.3 light-years long.  It is the largest known structure of galactic origin.

Just so you know, the distance that light travels in 1 year is called 1 light-year.  

The universe is a name given to all the matter around us.  Our universe is also called the cosmos.  The Universe is all of space, matter, energy, time, and its contents which include planets, stars, galaxies, and all other forms of matter and energy.

The Andromeda galaxy is the closest galaxy to the Milky Way galaxy.  Andromeda is 2.537 million light-years away from the Milky Way.

Here are my comments about each of these sayings. 

• Be someone to look up to - No matter where you live or where you go, there is always someone who looks up to you.  Be a good example to follow.

• Expand your horizons - Keep discovering new things and step out of your comfort zone.

• Keep a stellar attitude - Stellar means exceptionally good or outstanding.  Having a stellar attitude is having a very positive approach to all things that come our way.

• Stay active - Move more and sit less.  Take action.

• Don’t leave others in the dust - Lead by example and help others along the way.

• Keep evolving - Keep growing, keep learning!

• It’s ok to be far out! - It’s ok to have a different perspective or a unique idea. Share it!
