Rainforests - Hoh (2)

Advice from a Temperate Rainforest - Day 511 - Daily Content Challenge

Rainforests can be classified as tropical or temperate rainforests. Tropical rainforests are found near the equator and typically have warm and humid climates. Temperate rainforests are found in cooler regions and have a more moderate climate.

Trees in a tropical rainforest tend to be tall and slender and have smooth bark and a wide canopy. Trees in a temperate rainforest are often broader and shorter and they have a rougher bark and are shaped more like a cone. Temperate rainforests tend to have more evergreen trees than tropical rainforests.

The State of Washington is home to several rainforests.  The Hoh Rainforest, the Queets Rainforest and the Quinault Rainforest are located on the Olympic Peninsula.

Olympic National Park’s rainforests receive as much as 14 feet of precipitation every year.  The Hoh Rainforest is home to Sitka spruce, western hemlock, Douglas fir, red cedar, and other conifer trees. The trees can grow up to 300 feet tall.  They are covered in a thick lay of  ferns and mosses, creating a lush and vibrant canopy.

The forest floor is teeming with life.  There are different ferns, shrubs, and wildflowers growing in the understory.  Flowing through the rainforest, the Hoh River provides a habitat for salmon and other aquatic species.  The Hoh Rainforest is also home to a variety of wildlife, including mountain goats, black bears, and Roosevelt elk. Birdwatchers can spot a variety of species, including the marbled murrelet, the Pacific wren, and the varied thrush.

These are the sayings I found on the bookmark called Advice from a Temperate Rainforest.

  • Breathe Deeply

  • Celebrate Diversity

  • Let Your Good Ideas Mushroom

  • Have a Fertile Imagination

  • Keep Growing

  • Shower Often

  • Live Green!

Here are my comments about each of these sayings.

  • Breathe Deeply - Take a deep breath.  This idiomatic expression means to pause in order to make yourself feel strong and confident.

  • Celebrate Diversity - Celebrating our differences as well as our common interests, helps unite and educate us. To understand someone else’s perspective, helps us to broaden our own.

  • Let Your Good Ideas Mushroom - Mushroom means to grow in number.  Let your good ideas grow.

  • Have a Fertile Imagination - A fertile imagination is able to produce a lot of good, original ideas.

  • Keep Growing - Be a lifelong learner. When you overcome difficult situations, you come out stronger.  You grow from these experiences and you are better prepared to handle new experiences that come your way.

  • Shower Often - Taking a shower is good for your health.

  • Live Green! - Reduce your consumption of things that require resources or pollute the planet Earth.  Find cleaner solutions to everyday needs and wants.
