Happy Chinese New Year - Day 472 - Daily Content Challenge

Today is New Year’s Day for the Chinese New Year.  The Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, is the most important Traditional festival in China.  The Year of the Tiger ended yesterday and the Year of the Rabbit started today, January 22, 2023.

The Chinese New Year is celebrated by Chineses communities all over the world.  The Year of the Rabbit is believed to be the luckiest of the 12 animals to be born under.  The Water Rabbit is considered a gentle animal that thinks before acting.  The Year of the Rabbit represents patient and peaceful energy.

The Chinese New Year celebrations last for 15 days with the main celebration taking place on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.  Traditional foods such as dumplings and fish are eaten as families gather together.  Homes are decorated with red lanterns and children are given red envelopes filled with money. There are lion and dragon dances as well as fireworks.

The last year of the Rabbit in the Chinese Zodiac was in 2011 and the next year of the Rabbit will be in 2035.  The Chinese Zodiac is a 12-year cycle.  The twelve animals are Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig, Rat, Ox and Tiger.
