Let There Be Peace on Earth - Day 453 - Daily Content Challenge
A friend of mine suggested I talk about the song called “Let There Be Peace on Earth” and I have decided to follow her advice.
Jill Jackson wrote the words and her husband Sy Miller composed the melody to the song “Let There Be Peace on Earth” in 1955. The song was inspired by their belief that peace begins with each individual. The song was released with the intention of inspiring an attitude of peacefulness and unity. They believed it is possible to create a peaceful world and they wanted to create a climate for world peace and understanding.
The song has become a popular anthem for peace and is sung at peace rallies and events. Celine Dion, John Denver and even the Muppets have included this song in their repertoire.
The song has been translated into more than 20 languages and has been featured in many film, television and theatre productions. I remember singing this song at my Grade 9 graduation from Junior High School in Dartmouth, NS.
Here are the lyrics to this classic song.
Verse 1:
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me;
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be.
Chorus:
With God as our Father
Brothers, all are we.
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony.
Verse 2:
Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now;
With every step I take
Let this be my solemn vow:
Chorus:
To take each moment and live
Each moment in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth,
And let it begin with me.
May you experience peace and joy today. In your home, in your family, in your workplace, in your neighbourhood, in your community and in your world, may you take each moment and live each moment in peace.
